TRAVIS: IT WAS A DIFFERENT WORLD

-

DAVE Lee Travis yesterday responded to accusations he groped BBC colleagues in his studio by saying ‘it was a different world in the 70s’.

The former Radio 1 star added that ‘all institutions were the same back then’. He strenuously denied acting inappropriately and refuted allegations by two former BBC employees that he manhandled them.

Newscaster Vivien Creegor accused him of ‘jiggling her breasts’ as she was live on Radio 4 in the 19 0s.

A second woman alleged she was 17 when Travis invited her into his studio in 1977 and put his hand up her skirt. She has given a statement to police. Speaking at his home yesterday, Travis, 67, described their claims as ‘utter b*******’.

The former Radio 1 Breakfast Show host said: ‘It was a different world in the 70s – all institutions were the same back then.’

Travis, nicknamed the Hairy Cornflake during his BBC days, said he had not been contacted by anyone at the BBC or the police about the allegations, but he would be ‘more than happy’ to answer any questions.
