Parrot’s knock knock (but it’s no joke)

- Daily Mail Reporter

PERHAPS he decided spreading his wings hadn’t been quite such a good idea after all.

A missing parrot was reunited with his owner – after knocking on a stranger’s door for help.

Five days after escaping from his cage, Bobby the Eclectus bird apparently grew tired of the freedom used his beak to tap ‘urgently’ on the door of Sarah Purdie’s home.

The 41- year- old answered the knock to find the 12in tall emerald-green parrot perched on her doorstep.

She said: ‘I had just got home when I heard an urgent tapping at the door.

‘It was actually quite loud. I thought someone had thrown something at the door.

‘I opened up and didn’t see anyone there and was about to shut it but looked down and there he was.

‘I had actually half closed the door and walked away because I didn’t believe my eyes.

‘I was wondering if it was real. You normally expect unwanted salesmen at the door but it was a nice surprise to see an exotic parrot instead.’ Bobby had disappeared from his home in Elfordleigh, Plymouth, on October 9, and turned up some two miles away in Chaddlewood on Sunday.

He was taken to an animal rescue centre and reunited with frantic owner Margita Vilagiov.

She said: ‘He is so beautiful and I was so worried about him. I’d been putting around posters for five days and was so pleased that Sarah found him. He has spent a lot of time sleeping since he’s returned home.’

The brightly coloured Eclectus birds, which have red under their wings, are native to the Solomon Islands.
