Greek attache’s car firebombed

-

POLICE in Berlin are investigating an arson attack on the official car of the Greek military attache to Germany early yesterday.

It follows a firebombing in May this year when left-wing extremists set alight a limousine belonging to EU finance chief Horst Reichenbach outside his home in Potsdam after the German civil servant was out in charge of sorting out the Greek financial catastrophe.

Police refused to say if the Greek car, which had diplomatic plates, was targeted or burnt out in a random incident.

Arson attacks on luxury cars are not uncommon in Berlin and are usually blamed on anarchists.

The euro crisis and the austerity measures in Greece that German Chancellor Angela Merkel insists are necessary for Athens to stay in the single currency have raised political tensions in Berlin.
