MUM DIES ‘OF BROKEN HEART’
A NEWLYWED died ‘of a broken heart’ just hours after her first child was stillborn.
Lindsay Clift, 29, and husband Darren, 41, were expecting a daughter, who they had named Katy May. But last month, doctors at New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton found that their baby had died in the womb.
Soon after her daughter was delivered stillborn, Mrs Clift lost consciousness and never woke up. She was declared dead five hours later. Mr Clift, from Bilston, West Midlands, said: ‘She seemed to just pass out. To my mind, once Katy May had gone it was almost as if Lindsay wanted to go as well, to look after the baby. She wanted a baby so much.
‘ In my view she was so heartbroken that she wanted to be with the baby. This was a longed-for baby, it was mine and Lindsay’s first. I was there, I saw the fight go out of her.’
An inquest has been opened and adjourned, and the exact cause of death is not yet known.
