ANYONE FOR BLACK LIPSTICK?

I KNOW it’s almost Halloween, but when I saw this new black lipstick I had to laugh. Curiously, though, Givenchy Rouge Interdit 62 (£21) doesn’t actually make your lips look black. Once on, it’s a natural-looking berry shade that makes your teeth appear magically whiter. Created especially for Hollywood star Liv Tyler, it can also be used as a blusher. Apply straight from the bullet to the apples of your cheeks to add a flush of plum. Available from November 1. Call 01932 233824 for stockists. I predict a sell-out!

PICK A PRIMER

MOST primers are designed to be worn under foundation — but the new generation of skin-perfectors are so good they can disguise fine lines all by themselves, delivering a more natural finish than foundation. The most scientifically impressive product is the new Airbase Perfecting Primer (£27.50, airbase-makeup. which has serious staying power. For on-the-go touchups, I also rate the new CID Cosmetics Mini I-Prime (£10, QVCuk.com), which is small enough to keep in your handbag, while Nivea Daily Essentials Express Hydration Primer (£4.99, Boots) packs a nifty hydrating punch.

IT’S A WRAP

THE Olympics may be old news, but the nail art trend kick-started by the Games is bigger than ever — though patriotic flags have been replaced by animal prints. I really like 17 Gel Nail Animal Print stickers (£ 4.49, Boots) and Umberto Giannini Painted Lady TALONS Green Python Nail Wraps (£7, asos.com). You simply stick them on top of clean, freshly-buffed nails, trim the wraps down and then file them to fit your nails. It’s easy to do but needs a steady hand. Remove by washing your hands in warm, soapy water.
