THE DAMNING DOSSIER
COCKY STAFF
STAFF at Oakhurst nursing home, Bradford, were described as ‘cocky’ and ‘punitive’. Rooms were left unheated for two winters, and water running at 50C (122F) put residents at risk of scalding.
RESIDENTS IGNORED
ONE resident at Whitstable nursing home was left ‘black and blue’ after five falls in two weeks, and residents were ignored when they were in visible pain.
FILTHY COMMODES
UNANNOUNCED inspectors visiting Norton Hall care home, Worcester, found filthy commodes and soiled mattresses. Inspectors said there were no effective systems in place to prevent or monitor infection.
MISSED MEDICATION
TWO unannounced inspections at Willow Green care home, Darlington, found residents were given medication at the wrong times, and doses were missed.
FAULTY ALARMS
THE call-bell system at West Cliff Hall care home, Southampton, was found not to be working. One resident needed help going to the toilet but could not be heard and was eventually found on the floor and had to be taken to hospital.
UNEXPLAINED INJURIES
UNEXPLAINED injuries were not investigated in three cases at Coxwell Hall nursing home, Faringdon. At The Limes 1 care home, Ely, inspectors found that seven separate allegations of physical abuse were never reported.
