KNACKERED MOTHERS’ WINE CLUB
BARGAIN OF THE WEEK
dr l Riesling, £6 (normally £7.16), asda OK, I may be stretching it, but technically, this wine is good for you. At just 8.5 per cent alcohol it’s on the light side, and packed with classic Mosel Riesling flavour. A honey and lime de-lite.
WHITE WINE
villa Taurini verdicchio di Matelica, £5.99, Tesco THERE’S something comfortingly traditional about this wine, with its shamelessly old-school amphorashaped bottle. But inside is one very smart wine from Italy. There’s apples, lime and a nutty flavour to it. Gorgeously refreshing; a real foodie wine, too.
FOOD PAIRING: Light pasta dishes are especially good.
RED WINE
Sainsbury’s Taste The difference Chateauneuf du Pape, £14.99, YOU can find similar wines to Chateauneuf du Pape from the surrounding Southern Rhone villages at cheaper prices. You pay for the name. But in this case, it’s worth it. Big, bold and juicy, it’s a cocktail of grapes including Grenache and Syrah. Deliciously warming.
FOOD PAIRING: A big bowl of slow-cooked stew.
ROSE WINE
domaine de la navarre 2012, £8.99, M&S MY OBSESSION with musthave pink wines goes on. This one, from the south of France, is a traditional blend of Grenache, Tibouren and Cinsault grapes. Will make you think of brighter days.
