Is SJP next in line to the Vogue throne?

- From David Gardner in Los Angeles

HER most famous role was Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw, a journalist with a penchant for Manolo Blahnik shoes.

Now Sarah Jessica Parker is being tipped for one of the top jobs in the real cutthroat world of fashion magazines – as editorin-chief of Vogue.

The publication’s British editor Anna Wintour has set rumours flying among her senior staff, according to a report in the US yesterday, by hinting that her actress friend could take on a leading role at the American style bible.

Radar Online website quoted a high-level publishing source as saying: ‘Anna is worrying colleagues who believe she has found her true successor in Sarah. It’s a surprising idea, but one that is not entirely a joke.

‘Anna thinks Sarah, a fashion icon on Sex and the City, truly has what it takes to step into her shoes and take on a role at Vogue one day.

‘After all, she already played a writer, Carrie Bradshaw – and has the Manolo Blahniks!’

The New York based 48-yearold actress is a regular at the city’s top catwalk shows and just launched her own shoe line. Miss Wintour, 64, and her Hollywood muse Miss Parker are said to have regular private lunches together.

A Vogue insider added: ‘Sarah has been consulted on a stunning array of Vogue’s big moves over the last several months.

‘She has totally entered the inner circle.’

The current editor hosted a fundraiser for President Barack Obama at Miss Parker’s home last year, underlining her close bond with the actress.

Miss Wintour has made no announcements about when she plans to retire.
