Three months in jail for lawn thief

A WOMAN who was caught on CCTV stealing an entire front lawn has been jailed for three months.

Maureen McKenna was one of two women filmed removing turf from outside a house in Skelmersdale, Lancashire, on July 24.

The pair spent 40 minutes ripping up the grass in the early hours of the morning – and were even confident enough to stop for a cigarette break.

However the whole incident was caught on neighbour Bobby Stacey’s recently installed security cameras, and 59- year- old McKenna was arrested and charged with theft.

Mr Stacey, 51, described it as ‘shamefully funny’. ‘It was cheeky, but the turf must have cost at most £30, it doesn’t even seem worth it,’ he said. McKenna was sentenced at Ormskirk magistrates’ court yesterday. The second woman in the footage has not yet been identified.
