Athens of the north
It’s blackmail for scottish nationalists to say that if they win independence and are refused to be allowed to keep currency union, they won’t pay their share of UK debt.
the fact is that a currency union must not happen because it would make the people of England, Wales and Northern Ireland liable for any future disasters in the scottish economy.
If an independent scottish government ran into trouble, Edinburgh would, indeed, be the Athens of the north — not because of its architectural jewels but because it would need bankruptcy-inducing Greek-style bond yields to attract lenders.
