Malaysia Air axe

-

MALAYSIA Airlines will cut 6,000 jobs as part of a survival plan designed to save it from collapse following two disasters in a year.

The carrier will be nationalised, with the country’s state investment fund injecting £1.15bn to implement a turnaround plan. Staff numbers will be cut by 30pc, reducing total headcount from 20,000 to 14,000. The plan follows the disappearance of flight MH370 and the downing over Ukraine of flight MH17.

Tan Sri Azman Hj. Mokhtar, managing director of the state investment fund Khazanah Nasional Berhad, said ‘all parties’ had to work together.
