Chelsea write off £50m as he moves to Milan

CHELSEA last night wrote off the £50million they spent on Fernando Torres by letting him join AC Milan for the next two years.

The Spanish striker for whom Roman Abramovich smashed the British transfer record agreed a deal to move to Italy under which Chelsea won’t receive any fee.

Milan will take over the £175,000-a-week contract which Torres, now 30, signed when he moved from Liverpool on deadline day in January 2011.

And the final exit from Stamford Bridge of a player who became a shadow of the striker who helped win the 2010 World Cup meant each of his 20 Premier League goals have cost Abramovich £2.5m.

Torres will be in Milan today to take a medical before completing the formalitie­s of an agreement under which he writes off any money still owed to him by the London club, while Milan don’t have to pay any compensati­on to his club.

Chelsea last night confirmed that the complicate­d deal will be officially recorded as a loan, but it means Torres, who would have become a free agent in 2016, will not play for the club again.
