Cliff’s back for another year with his best-selling calendar
LAST year Sir Cliff Richard hinted he might end the 35-year tradition of his annual calendar, to howls of protest from his loyal fans.
So there are likely to be celebrations now that photographs have been revealed from the new 2015 edition.
The 73-year-old appears relaxed and upbeat in the pictures, which show him enjoying a Summer Holiday lifestyle in Barbados, where he has a home.
Indeed September’s image, which shows him playing a guitar while waves lap around his ankles, could almost have been taken from the 1963 film – give or take the odd wrinkle.
The calendar comes after police last month searched the singer’s £3.1million apartment in Berkshire while investigating an allegation of historic abuse. He has strongly denied the accusations, which he described as ‘completely false’, and although he was interviewed under caution, he was not arrested or charged and continues to deny any wrongdoing.
The cover shot sees him stride out of a tropical ocean in a dazzlingly white suit, clutching a bottle of his own Portuguese vineyard’s Congratulations sparkling rose wine.
The celebrations continue inside, where he strikes a thumbs-up pose with a birthday cake to mark his 75th birthday in October 2015.
Fans of his well-preserved physique will be pleased to see Sir Cliff back on display again, and February’s image shows him topless on a pink lilo. The so-called Peter Pan of Pop has insisted he is never airbrushed in his calendar photographs, although he has admitted that he has used hair dye and Botox in the past to help him hold back the years.
Sir Cliff has sold more than 1.5million calendars in the past three decades, and in recent years he has outsold all of his younger rivals except One Direction.
But last year he acknowledged that time was catching up with him, saying: ‘I think the reason why the rumours got out that I’m not going to do any more is probably because it’s true. No, not completely. You have hit the nail on the head – how many shapes can I pull with this body?’
