Did Imran tie the knot TWO MONTHS ago?
WHEN this column broke the news last week that Imran Khan had secretly wed ex- BBC weather presenter Reham Khan, he tweeted in response: ‘Reports of my marriage are greatly exaggerated!’
Yesterday Imran, 62, and divorced mother-of-three Reham, 41, wed in a simple ceremony at his Islamabad home before a handful of witnesses. None of Imran Khan’s sisters attended, amid reports they disapprove of the match, nor did his two sons by first wife Jemima Goldsmith.
There is speculation in Pakistan that the couple had already wed in November and that yesterday’s ceremony was for public consumption.
Reports of Imran’s nuptials have caused a backlash in Pakistan after photos of his bride in ‘revealing’ clothes and a video of her dancing the tango were posted online.
Imran flew to London last weekend to tell Jemima and their sons about the new love in his life. But Jemima had announced as early as last October that she was ditching the name Khan because he was to remarry.
Mufti Saeed, who officiated yesterday, was pressed on whether he had married Imran before. ‘Ask him,’ he said. ‘I am not in a position to say.’
Later, when asked about the marriage papers, he said: ‘In all the excitement I forgot to sign them.’
En route to Pakistan on Monday, Khan appeared to confirm that he was married. He is reported to have said: ‘I am going to Pakistan to share good news about my marriage with the nation. I have nothing to hide.’
