SO JUST WHAT TICKLED KIM?

- By Sian Boyle

SHE clenched her fists, bit her scarf and ran her hands through her hair.

But if Kim Sears had found Andy Murray’s victory over Grigor Dimitrov at the Australian Open tense yesterday, she found blessed light relief at the end.

During a post-match interview, she roared with laughter as her fiance was put on the spot about their upcoming wedding – and most notably, his choice of attire for the big day.

This being Australia, interviewer Hamish McLachlan wanted detail.

And so it was that Murray was not only forced to reveal he was considering wearing a kilt, but that he might also wear it the traditional Scottish way. The disclosure had Miss Sears – sporting a grungier look than usual, with black jeans slashed at the knee – chuckling along with the rest of the audience.

Asked whether he would favour a suit or a kilt for the nuptials, the 27-yearold jokingly told the Melbourne audience to ‘relax’ as they began shouting out their preferences.

‘I think I’m going to have both options and see what I feel like in the morning when I wake up,’ he said.

When McLachlan probed further into whether, if he chose the kilt, he would be wearing it the traditional way, Murray said there was no other way to do it. He said: ‘Obviously proper kilt.’ Pressed on whether that meant he would be ‘free balling’ – which means to go without underwear – Murray said ‘exactly’, before quickly ending the inquisition.

The banter was in contrast to the nailbiting fourth round match against Dimitrov. As Miss Sears clapped and waved her hands around, her jaw-dropping £200,000 diamond engagement ring could be seen gleaming. Their wedding is reportedly planned for October.
