Real fans launch attack on Bale

- PETE JENSON reports from Madrid

GARETH BALE’S future at Real Madrid was thrown into more doubt last night after his white Bentley was attacked by abusive Real Madrid supporters.

The £80million former Tottenham forward, who has been linked with a return to the Premier League in the summer, was accosted driving away from the club’s training ground in the early hours of yesterday morning after arriving back in Madrid following Barcelona’s 2-1 victory over Real at the Nou Camp.

Two men tried to stop Bale, kicking out at his car as he sped away from them without stopping.

The men shouted ‘Hijo de puta’ (‘Son of a bitch’) at the player as security guards attempted to calm them down.

Bale has been singled out by Real supporters since the turn of the year as the team have lost three games in the league.

But he receives little praise, is constantly reminded of his price tag, and as in the inquest into Sunday’s critical loss to Barcelona, bears the brunt of the criticism when the team lose. Real acted swiftly last night by identifying those responsible. A statement said that three men had been involved in the incident and that one was a club member who would now be banned for life.
