KNACKERED MOTHERS’ WINE CLUB
BARGAIN OF THE WEEK Condesa de Flores Cava Brut Rose, £6.66 (normally £9.99), Tesco TIME to crack open the fizz, don’t you think? This is a brilliant, outrageously bright pink Cava made by top producer Cordoniu from the Garnacha, Monastrell and Pinot Noir grapes. Loaded with fresh berry fruits. A steal at this price.
WHITE WINE: Honeycomb Chardonnay 2014, £8 (normally £10), M&S THIS is made by a winery called Journey’s End in South Africa’s top wine spot, Stellenbosch. It’s rich, textured and has bags of flavour, specifically apples, toast and nuts. And given its name, it is entirely appropriate to have a generous glass of this at the end of a long day. A sunny, smart wine.
FOOD PAIRING: Bowl of olives. RED WINE: Grignan-Les-Adhemar 2012 Delas, £6.95, The Wine Society IF YOU like Chateauneuf du Pape, you’ll love this gorgeously spicy, bramble fruit-flavoured red from a nearby region in the southern Rhone Valley in France. It’s a Grenache and Syrah grape mashup and, with its gutsy flavours, is a great match for a full-on Easter feast of red meat and dark chocolate. Yum! FOOD PAIRING: Roast lamb.
SWEET WINE: Seriously Peachy Pacherenc du Vic Bilh, £10.99, Waitrose THIS is a deliciously sweet white wine made from local grape varieties and it’s (unsurprisingly) peachy with a kind of jellied fruit thing going on. There’s a trace of honey, too. Pour a small glass of this for yourself when you’re on the sofa with a chocolate Easter egg within reach.
FOOD PAIRING: White chocolate. THE Knackered Mother’s Wine Club by Helen McGinn (Pan Macmillan, £12.99).
