RYAN, WHY IS MY RATTY FACE ON YOUR ARM?

- KIERAN GILL

RYAN MASON probably didn’t expect his tattoo to take centre stage during his senior England debut, but that’s exactly what happened on Tuesday night. The 23-year-old was celebrating Tottenham Hotspur team-mate Andros Townsend’s equalising goal for England against Italy when a tattoo on his arm was shown across televisions worldwide. Twitter user @Danorako compared it to a photograph of himself at 12 years old (below, right), and it has since been retweeted more than 25,000 times by those taking note of the uncanny resemblance. Other than that, it was a relatively successful debut for the Spurs starlet. England escaped Turin with a 1-1 draw and Mason was given 16 minutes by Roy Hodgson after replacing Jordan Henderson, his edge-of-the-box intervention providing the assist for Townsend’s thunderous equaliser. Four years ago this week, Mason was playing just six minutes of a 1-0 defeat by Bristol City in the Championship during a loan spell with Doncaster Rovers. The midfielder was farmed out to Swindon Town in League One last season again, but in this campaign has followed his celebrated clubmate Harry Kane by making a remarkable rise to the Barclays Premier League and i international fo football. SportsmailSp con contacted Mason yester yesterday and he prefers t to keep the reason for t the tattoo private. As for @Danorako, he later tweeted; ‘I kinda feel bad bc his tattoo is probably a tribute to a relative or a friend and now i come along with my 12 yr old ratty face and ruin it.’
