Change of job that’s really working out

- SARAH HARRIS

ANDREW Noutch worked as a primary school teaching assistant for three years, but wanted a career change.

The 34-year-old loved sport and had experienced the benefits of personal training following a back injury, so he decided to retrain.

He completed his Level 3 Diploma in personal training with Premier Training International in August 2012. Andrew is now a partner and personal trainer at a private studio, Hale Personal Training, in Hale, Cheshire.

Andrew has amassed more than 60 clients ranging from as young as 11 up to those in their mid-70s. He has worked with people with a range of physical conditions including motor neurone disease, Parkinson’s and those like himself, who have had problems with lower back pain.

He says: ‘ After working as a teaching assistant in a primary school from 2010 to the end of 2012, I knew I wanted to continue to educate and support people, but it’s their health and wellbeing that really motivates me.

‘ Coming from a sporting background and having experienced the benefits of personal training first-hand, this path seemed like the obvious choice to me.’

Andrew injured his back while at the gym in October 2008 and underwent surgery and intense physiotherapy.

His personal trainer also played an instrumental role in his recovery process and provided the source of inspiration for his next career step.

He says: ‘ Retraining as a personal trainer was one of the best decisions I ever made.

‘Every day is different and I look forward to seeing how the business develops in years to come. The course fitted in perfectly with the school summer holidays, making my new career move so simple.’

Jon Taylor, 26, from Chipstead, Surrey, quit his day job negotiating insurance policies and also retrained with Premier Training International.

He worked as a personal trainer at a gym chain but, in January, set up his own personal training business. He says: ‘Despite being an insurance broker since the age of 18, I know that it was not where my passion truly lay.

‘Having always had an interest in sport and fitness, in August 2013 I completed the Level 3 Diploma with Premier and it was such a worthwhile decision.

‘ The tutors are some of the best teachers I have ever had and I always tell people that I could not have done it without their support.’
