Get her away from me! Mrs Nagsbo’s husband has ‘f led to police safe house’

- By Emily Kent Smith

THE husband of a woman dubbed Britain’s most difficult wife has fled to a safe house after police escorted him from his home, neighbours claimed.

Julie Griffiths, 46, has tormented husband Norman for more than 25 years – and has been warned several times she could face jail if she does not change her ways.

She was handed a five-year antisocial behaviour order in 2012 for her ranting, leading her to be nicknamed ‘ Nagsbo’. Desperate neighbours resorted to recording noise made by the clothes factory worker, as proof of her rowdy behaviour to show police.

But after reaching the end of his tether just over a week ago, 66-yearold Mr Griffiths, a former toffee factory worker, escaped the home they shared in Fenton, near Stoke- onTrent, Staffordshire, and fled to a safe house, locals claimed. Neighbours said the pair’s arguments had wors-

ened since Mr Griffiths’s recent retirement, which had meant he was spending more time at home, the Daily Mirror newspaper reported.

The couple moved to their home last year. Residents there told yesterday of the pair’s ongoing rows plaguing the street – and asked to remain anonymous for fear of retribution.

One said: ‘She would start screaming and shouting at him from the moment she got in from work.

‘I should think the poor bloke is glad to get away from her and things have been a bit calmer and quieter since the police came and took him away.’

Another said: ‘They both shout at each other and everyone in the street can hear them … She hits Norman and I have called the police a couple of times in the last few months because she has been hitting him … Then last Sunday a police car arrived … Norman had called them. They took him away and I believe he has been put into social housing for his own protection.’

Others told of how they often heard screams erupting from the house and that Mrs Griffiths had a ‘fiery’ reputation. One said: ‘We sometimes hear the shouting and screaming going on for what seems like hours … Then you hear doors being slammed.’

Houses on both sides of the property have ‘to let’ signs outside but locals said it was unlikely anyone would be interested because of ‘that noise’. It is understood the previous residents moved out because of the disruption.

On Christmas Eve last year, Mr Griffiths was taken by ambulance to hospital. Neighbours said they had heard the pair arguing just beforehand.

Police confirmed they were called on May 3 but were unable to say whether Mr Griffiths had left. A spokesman said: ‘A 46-year-old local woman was arrested on suspicion of assault but later released with no further action.’

Mrs Griffiths declined to comment.
