Should the BBC ditch Wimbledon 2Day?

-

THE BBC should ditch the appalling Wimbledon 2Day. The format is tacky, Clare Balding doesn’t seem to know much about tennis and has to keep looking at her iPad, and the whole thing is punctuated by inane questions and home videos from the public. I thought the purpose of a highlights show was to show the best tennis of the day and provide informed comments on the play. I used to love this show. It was an integral part of Wimbledon coverage, but I’ll be switching it off from now on.

SUSAN GREGORY, Bristol.

CLARE BALDING is a breath of fresh air. She’s professional, witty and very quick, and the new format is a welcome change, with different commentators giving their views. She’s presented Channel 4’s racing coverage admirably, and the BBC should be thankful for her contribution.

AVRIL HADDEN, Carshalton Beeches, Surrey. BBC2’S Wimbledon coverage is a refreshing change which covers all the matches and a lot more. Give the new programme a chance. It’s lovely seeing the Navratilovas, McEnroes and the rest giving their comments.

MILLIONS of workers come home every day and wish to see the best of the day’s play at Wimbledon. Wimbledon 2Day is more like The Clare Balding Show. John Inverdale’s highlights programme reflected the standing of the greatest tennis event in the world. The Wimbledon Championships deserve better.

JIM RESIDE, London W4.

AFTER the Olympics fiasco and the appalling Royal Pageant coverage, can the BBC get any worse? Yes: Wimbledon 2Day. There was a time when I wept when the BBC began losing outside broadcasts to rival companies. Now I can’t wait for it to lose everything.

I. BARRATT, Maldon, Essex.
