Forget apples. Give teacher a bottle of Brad’s rosé!

The end-of-year gifts that’ll earn your child top marks with Miss ...

- HARRIET ARKELL

Summer holidays are nearly here, so is your child care sorted? your holiday flights booked? hire car? sun cream? presents for your children’s teachers?

It’s the last one that always gets you. Before you know it, it’s the last day of term and you have to grab a bottle of wine from the cupboard.

or is it just me? I heard about a russian parent at a private school in south-West London who flew to moscow to buy £1,000 bottles of vodka for her children’s teachers. she gave them to the staff, making sure each one was aware of the lengths (and cost) she had gone to.

assuming you have a slightly smaller budget, here are some of the best presents to help you show your gratitude to those saints who have kept your children on the straight and narrow all year.

Personalised ‘Best Teacher’ Print

£26.50, notonthehighstreet.com. of ALL the personalised presents for teachers I found, this was the nicest. ask the children for descriptions of their teacher, draw up a shortlist of seven, and have them made into an a3 print. you have to buy a frame separately but this is a present any teacher will cherish.

Mini Tea Cup Gift

£3, Tesco. a LOVELY, affordable present for a teacher of any age: a sweet little teacup with ‘thank you teacher’ printed on the side, and a pretty plant growing in it.

Summer Orange Honeycomb Dips

£3.50 for 100g bag, notonthehighstreet.com HONEYCOMB is an emerging trend, and these chunks of naturally orange-flavoured honeycomb have been dipped in peruvian dark chocolate to make them very special. a lovely and original present.

Miraval Rose 2014

£18 a bottle, M&S. our children’s headmistress once told me she likes to unwind by reading showbiz stories on mailonline. celebrity antics are doubtless light relief compared to the day job, and this utterly delicious, crisp, pale pink rosé, made by Brad pitt and angelina Jolie at their chateau miraval estate in provence, would be the perfect accompaniment.

Gusti Leder Studio Leather Laptop Bag

£73.50, Amazon. THIS beautiful brown leather bag would go down extremely well and is a snip at the price. It fits a 13in laptop or lots of books, and has a waterproof lining and strong strap.

Writer’s Tears Pot Still Irish Whiskey

£28 for 70cl, M&S. If your child’s teacher has been busy with the red pen, a beautiful bottle of this triple distilled whiskey, named after generations of whiskey-fuelled Irish writers, should go down well.

Godiva Luxury Chocolate Hamper

£200, Selfridges (nationwide delivery via selfridges.com). parents often club together to buy vouchers but if you would rather give something more tangible, this mouthwatering selection including truffles, tablets and chocolate spread would require less than £7 each in a class of 30.

I Before E (except after C) Old School Ways to Remember Stuff

£8.99 from The Works stores and online (theworks.co.uk). THIS fun book by Judy parkinson is a mixture of nostalgia and reference, and packed with useful memory aids including childhood rhymes, acronyms, rules and sayings. perfect for a teacher looking for new ways to inspire their pupils.

Chalkboard & Pen Set

£7.99, Aldi. a fun present for the teacher who will miss writing on a blackboard over the summer.
