Douglas takes his 3 Zetas to the movies

IF imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then Catherine Zeta- Jones’s 12-year-old daughter Carys is clearly her mother’s biggest fan.

She looked like a mini Zeta last night as they arrived on the red carpet with her brother Dylan, 14, whose dark good looks also seemed to owe more to his Welsh mum than his American father Michael Douglas, 70.

The family were at the Odeon in Leicester Square for the European premiere of the film Ant-Man, in which Oscar winner Douglas plays scientist Hank Pym.

But he seemed more concerned about the so-called British invasion of Hollywood than his own role.

He said the influx of Britons had become a crisis as ‘asexual’ Americans were pushed aside. British beefcakes such as

‘There’s a crisis in young Americans’

Christian Bale, who played Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman and Tom Hardy as Mad Max had taken roles that would once have been snapped up by Americans.

Others such as Benedict Cumberbatc­h and Eddie Redmayne were monopolisi­ng more cerebral roles.

Douglas said that when he began his career 50 years ago, his main competitio­n was other Americans.

These days, he claimed, too many US actors lacked the skills of the British – and Australian­s – because they did not spend enough time honing their craft.

‘The Brits and Australian­s are taking many of the best American roles,’ he said. ‘In Britain, they take their training seriously while... with the Aussies, it’s the masculinit­y. There’s a crisis in young American actors. Everyone’s much more image conscious than they are about actually playing the part.’
