Blame my satnav says guilty driver

-

A MOTORIST who drove 30 miles the wrong way down a dual carriageway and almost collided with a police car blamed her satnav, a court heard.

Officers spotted Someya Parveen, 26, on the A14 near the M1 exit in Northamptonshire at about 5am on New Year’s Day.

Northampton Crown Court heard her Toyota Corolla narrowly avoided a head- on collision with a police car driving in the opposite direction before she was pulled over.

The logistics firm manager, of Small Heath, Birmingham, was ‘completely oblivious’ to her error and told police she had simply been following her satnav’s directions. She then gave a false name.

On Monday, Parveen admitted dangerous driving and was handed a sixmonth suspended jail sentence and a two-year driving ban, and ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work.

Recorder Stuart Sprawson said she had ‘risked causing carnage’, adding: ‘You ignored all road signs and drove down the road in the wrong direction.’
