Woman wakes up in a morgue

A DOCTOR is to stand trial in Germany for sending a patient to a hospital morgue – while she was still alive.

The physician sent the 92-year-old woman to the mortuary after believing she had died at her residential care home in March this year.

Relatives of the woman gathered to bid farewell to her before she was taken to the morgue – where she awoke hours later.

An alarmed undertaker discovered her and called an ambulance.

The woman, who had been seriously ill when she was sent to the morgue by the doctor, died 48 hours later.

‘The woman’s death is unrelated to the fact she spent numerous hours in the mortuary cooling chamber,’ said prosecutors in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The doctor, who has not been named, has been told by medical authorities he will stand trial for criminal negligence later in the year.
