THOSE big lamps they brought in at Edgbaston to dry out the pitch seemed to have worked well. I’m sure I recognised four of them from my allotment! England got everything they wanted here — a good covering of grass, a bit of seam movement and overhead conditions — but Alastair Cook said he would have had a bat!
