THEY are saying a fond farewell to Downton Abbey after filming the final episodes of the period drama.

Despite the experience being an emotional one for the cast, however, stars Michelle Dockery and Joanne Froggatt still managed to raise a smile.

The actresses put on a stylish display as they discussed the sixth and final series of the popular ITV show at a TV industry event in Hollywood on Saturday.

And there was good news for fans as executive producer Gareth Neame hinted that a follow-up film could be a possibility after the final series airs this autumn.

The Julian Fellowes drama will end several years shy of the 1929 stock market crash, and Mr Neame said that left rich territory to be mined if a movie was made.

For their Hollywood appearance Miss Dockery, 33, who plays Lady Mary Crawley, wore a sea-green silk dress with a slit down the front and looped netting detailing on the skirt, with gold heeled sandals, while Miss Froggatt, 34, who plays housemaid Anna Bates, chose a thick textured black dress with white abstract markings and a pair of simple red heels.

Production at Highclere Castle, the Berkshire estate that stood in for Downton Abbey, has now finished and the final day was an emo-

tional one for the cast. Miss Dockery said: ‘Laura [Carmichael, who plays Lady Edith] and I wandered around for the last time. Suddenly we didn’t want to go home. It was really funny.’

Mr Neame added that the last season will bring back some faces from the past.

The last episode will be a special to be screened on Christmas Day.
