Bilic lands four but not Adebayor

- By SAMI MOKBEL

WEST HAM brought in four players yesterday as Slaven Bilic got busy on his deadline day debut for the club.

Alex Song and Victor Moses arrived on season-long loans from Barcelona and Chelsea respectively, Michail Antonio signed from Nottingham Forest in a £7million deal and striker Nikica Jelavic arrived from Hull for £3m.

However, the Hammers were unable to secure Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor.

Song, 27, returns to Upton Park for a second loan spell following a successful stint last season. He is joined by pacy Nigeria forward Moses, 24, who signed a four-year deal at Chelsea before his move to the Hammers.

Jelavic, 30, who worked with Bilic when the West Ham boss was Croatia manager, has signed a two-year deal with an option for two more. He scored eight Premier League goals for Hull in an injuryhit 2014-15 season.

Winger Antonio, 25, steps up from Championship level on a four-year contract after 19 goals in 53 matches for Forest.

West Ham’s attempts to land Adebayor were called off after the club used up their domestic loan allowance.

Defender Carl Jenkinson was already on loan from Arsenal and the capture of Moses represented the last remaining temporary move permitted.

It meant former Togo striker Adebayor, who was expected to join West Ham until the end of the season, was forced into talks with Tottenham in an attempt to have his contract terminated.

However, Adebayor, 31, and Spurs could not reach an agreement, with the striker adamant his £100,000-aweek deal be paid up in full.

West Ham had turned to Adebayor after deciding against a £15m move for Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin.

Austin remains at Loftus Road in a boost to the Championship club’s promotion hopes, despite interest from Premier League clubs in a striker who scored 18 times in QPR’s relegation season. Hammers owner David Sullivan had questioned Austin’s fitness.

Matt Jarvis left Upton Park to join Norwich on loan.
