Men more likely to ask for a rise
AS the saying goes, if you don’t ask, you don’t get.
So it’s little surprise that men are more likely to receive a pay rise than women – because they are also more likely to ask for one.
According to a poll of 1,000 workers, nearly half of men have asked their bosses for a rise, compared to just a third of women. As a result, a third of the men surveyed had been given a pay increase at some point in their careers – compared to a quarter of women.
But the study, by website careerbuilder.co.uk, also found that if women were bolder, they would have similar success rates to their male colleagues.
Of the workers who did ask, two-thirds of both men and women were successful at getting a bump in their salary.
