WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? 9PM, BBC1
BORN in Texas on a farm that had no electricity or running water, Jerry Hall went to Paris at the age of 16 to pursue her modelling career, eventually settling in the UK. Her family, she says, has always had ‘pioneer spirit’ — ‘if you wanna do it, just go do it.’ And it seems that is exactly how her father’s family,
originally from Oldham, ended up in America. So, where does this pioneering spirit come from? ‘I suppose it’s in the genes; we’ll find out.’ Her father, John Hall, died in 1977, and Jerry wants to explore his English heritage — ‘why they went to Texas, where they came from, what they did’. Her quest begins in Oldham; what did greatgrandfather James do before crossing the Atlantic?
