RHYS WEBB has already ousted Mike Phillips to become Wales’ no 1 scrum-half and now the trained plumber has set his sights on becoming the best no 9 in the world.

the 26- year- old osprey scored 19 tries in 27 games last season and is plotting to oust new Zealand star Aaron Smith, who he regards as the leading international no 9.

‘ his game- management, awareness and skill set as a scrum-half is pretty special,’ said Webb.

‘he’s got a big All Blacks pack in front of him which makes life a lot easier. Behind that pack every week, you could do anything.

‘i want to keep pushing and testing myself against the best nines in the world. the World Cup is the biggest stage to do it on.’

Warren Gatland is likely to rest some of his star names for Saturday’s final warm-up test against italy and Webb added: ‘We know that if get our game plan right and cut out errors, we can go anywhere and win.’
