Let me go, says young keeper

which could rise to £58m, saying: ‘I don’t know if I’m worth €80m but I don’t worry about the sums. I’m going for the football side of things, the price is between the clubs and I don’t see myself under any pressure. ‘My family were really happy for me that I’m going to such a big club. They were a bit nervous given my high price but I’m going to stay focused.’ Martial could make his debut against Liverpool at Old Trafford on September 12, and is not fazed by the fact that United captain Wayne Rooney didn’t know who he was. Martial said: ‘It is normal that Wayne Rooney doesn’t know me. He is a big player and next to him I’ll improve my game a lot.’ Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger feels United paid over the odds for Martial, saying: ‘He is a huge talent, but the investment is absolutely huge as well.’ Meanwhile, United’s goalkeeping fiasco has taken a new twist with Van Gaal being accused of stifling young English talent. After David de Gea’s move to Real Madrid collapsed and Victor Valdes’s switch to Besiktas failed, back-up keeper Sam Johnstone is furious at the club’s refusal to let him leave to play first-team football. Van Gaal has opted to play Sergio Romero, 28, instead of Johnstone, 22, in United’s six matches this season, but still blocked the keeper’s moves to Championship clubs. Johnstone’s agent Jordan Segal at Impact Sports said: ‘Sam just wants to play football, but Manchester United are holding him back. He is a young keeper and it is time for him to play regularly. If that is not at United, then it has to be elsewhere. This is young English talent being held back by Van Gaal.’ Johnstone signed a new threeyear deal in January 2014 under former boss David Moyes. He had a loan spell at Preston last season and kept a clean sheet in the play-off final as the club won promotion to the Championship. But Van Gaal did not even send staff to watch Johnstone at Deepdale.
