The Essex boy made good: Jamie’s £10m home in heart of luvvie land

- By Sam Creighton TV & Radio Reporter

IT’S a far cry from his childhood home above his parents’ pub in rural Essex.

But this is the latest multi-million pound property to be added to Jamie Oliver’s empire.

The celebrity chef, 40, paid almost £10million for the eight-bedroom home in North London.

A stone’s throw from Hampstead Heath and in the heart of luvvie-land, the 17th century Grade II listed property was marketed as having a beautiful interior, including ‘wonderful’ panelled rooms and a ‘particularly fine’ staircase, as well as period features, beautiful gardens and stunning views.

That part of North London is already home to a host of celebrities including Kate Moss, George Michael and Jude Law.

Oliver is believed to have finalised the purchase in July but is yet to move in. It is just three miles from the £7million Primrose Hill property where he lives with his wife Jools, 40, and their children, Poppy, 13, Daisy, 12, Petal, six, and Buddy, four.

The chef, who is thought to be worth £180million, also owns a country manor near his home town of Clavering.

His family’s new home was sold by luxury estate agents Savills. The firm declined to discuss the deal and has removed details of the property from its website but a woman at the address confirmed Oliver had bought the house. A spokesman for the chef declined to comment.

Oliver found fame through the TV series The Naked Chef in 1999 and has been a regular on our screens since. He has sold more than 37million cookery books and also operates a restaurant chain, while his wife runs children’s clothing line Little Bird.

In recent years Oliver has championed healthy eating and has headed campaigns for better school meals.

On Monday he begins his latest Channel 4 series, Jamie’s Super Food. It sees the chef travel the globe to learn about healthy eating. It follows Jamie’s Sugar Rush, broadcast on Thursday, in which he looked at the harm eating too much sugar is doing to the nation.
