Jonny has given away your secrets, say Aussies

- By SAM PETERS

AUSTRALIA have set their sights on spoiling England’s World Cup party after taking tips from Jonny Wilkinson about how to win on enemy territory. England’s 2003 World Cup winner shared a dressing room at Toulon with Wallabies Drew Mitchell and Matt Giteau in the final years of his stellar career, when he built close friendships with his international opponents. Wilkinson, who revealed last week he felt like he was ‘falling apart’ after retiring from the sport, has spoken to his former team-mates about winning Down Under and they are determined to return the favour on English soil. Mitchell (below) said: ‘We know Jonny from our time at Toulon. We’ve had a bit of a chat with him about his experience of winning the World Cup. ‘I think he’s been pretty open about how it’s been one of the best things but also one of the more difficult things he’s had to go through in his career with the fame and attention it brought him. We’ve been able to speak to him from his perspective about the good and the bad side of it. ‘He’s obviously a great player who is held in high regard around the world. For us to be able to play alongside him and pick his brains about how he goes about his game has been beneficial for us personally. I don’t know if it will be beneficial to this tournament. He’s told us everything about the English psyche!’ The Wallabies do not open their Pool A campaign until they play Fiji a week today after the South Sea Islanders take on England at Twickenham tomorrow. Unlike England, they will be able to do so with overseas-based players, including Mitchell and Giteau, having changed their rules. Giteau said: ‘It was a big issue for us and we’re both very thankful we’ve been given the opportunity to play in a massive occasion like the World Cup.’
