LEWANDOWSKI SCORES FIVE IN NINE MINUTES!

- By ANDREW MAGEE

ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI came off the bench to score five goals in just nine minutes during an incredible second-half display for Bayern Munich. The Polish striker set a record for the fastest fivegoal haul in Bundesliga history and also became the first substitute to score five goals in the German top flight. ‘I’m very satisfied. It was a crazy few minutes,’ said Lewandowski. ‘This was a great evening for me. Five goals, that’s unbelievable.’ His manager Pep Guardiola added: ‘Neither as a coach nor as a player did I ever experience something like this and I can’t really explain it.’ Guardiola’s side trailed 1-0 at home to Wolfsburg before Lewandowski was brought on at half-time to rescue proceedings. The Polish captain took just six minutes to score his first, a tap-in from six yards out. Exactly 60 seconds later he smashed in a second from the edge of the penalty area before adding a scrappy third after first being denied by a post and then the goalkeeper. He scored a fourth after good work from Brazilian Douglas Costa on the left but saved the best until last, smashing in Mario Gotze’s cross with a sublime scissor-kick. His haul was four times faster than Jermain Defoe’s Premier League record for five goals in a game. He hit five in 36 second-half minutes for Tottenham during their 9-1 win over Wigan in 2009. But Lewandowski still falls short of the English and German top-flight records for most goals in one game. Ted Drake scored all seven for Arsenal in a 7-1 win at Aston Villa in 1935 while Dieter Muller scored six for FC Koln in a 7-2 win over Werder Bremen in 1977. Bayern’s 5-1 win ensured their 100 per cent start in the Bundesliga continued. They have won six out of six and top the table, three points ahead of Borussia Dortmund, who have a game in hand.
