FIT-AGAIN MOORE IS CHASING TOP PRIZES

- By MARCUS TOWNEND

RYAN MOORE is ready for a shot at major autumn prizes, domestically and internationally, after finishing third on Peterhof on his surprise comeback at Newmarket yesterday.

Moore had signalled his return was imminent but it was only confirmed he would ride the Sir Michael Stoute-trained runner, who was beaten six lengths by Rare Rhythm in the Arkle Finance Handicap, in the morning.

It was Moore’s first ride since he damaged vertebrae in his neck when his mount Newton’s Law reared in the starting stalls and bashed him into the metal framework at Newmarket’s July meeting 11 weeks ago.

Moore rides Thetis (Rockfel Stakes), Time Test (Joel Stakes) and Cannock Chase (Godolphin Stakes) at Newmarket today and tomorrow his mounts include Aidan O’ Brien’s Alice Springs in the Cheveley Park Stakes and Charlie Appleby’s Rouleau in the Middle Park Stakes.

Moore’s return is nine days ahead of the Arc when his possible mounts are headed by O’Brien’s Found.

Moore (right) said: ‘I am pleased to be back. With injuries you are never quite sure how long it is going to take, but I was never told I would be out for the rest of the season. Things have healed back fine. I always thought I would be back at this time of year but there are scans and things and you have to see how things progress.

‘Being out is part of sport. I have had injuries before and you just focus on fixing yourself as quickly as you can and getting yourself back ready.’

Meanwhile Irish trainer Jim Bolger says Sanus Per Aquam, winner of the Group Three Somerville Tattersalls Stakes yesterday could run in the Dewhurst Stakes back at Newmarket at Future Champions Day on October 10. Bolger has won five of the last nine runnings of the Group One contest.

George Scott, assistant trainer to the retiring Lady Cecil, will have Shaden spearheading his team when he starts training from Saffron House Stables in Newmarket later this year. The filly won the Group Three Firth of Clyde Stakes at Ayr last Saturday.

Kieren Fallon has his first mounts since relocating to America in May when he partners Deep Resolve (1.40) and Siege of Boston ( 3.55) at

Haydock this afternoon.
