Don’t you know who I am? Er, no! The road-rage boast that backfired

- By Chris Brooke

IT is a question more commonly asked by celebrities who feel they’ve been snubbed. But this time the phrase ‘do you know who I am’ has led to worldwide fame for a motorist called Ronnie Pickering.

The irate driver was caught on camera threatening a bemused motorcyclist and challenging him to a bare-knuckle fight.

During the bizarre rant the red-faced motorist repeatedly shouted at the biker: ‘Do you know who I am?’ Clearly nonplussed, the motorcyclist responded, ‘Do I care?’ before adding: ‘Come on then, who are you?’ The answer was then revealed: ‘Ronnie Pickering!’

The motorcyclist, clearly enjoying baiting the man, went on to ask, ‘Who the f*** is that?’ ‘Me,’ replied Mr Pickering, pointing to himself proudly as a stony-faced woman in the seat next to him stared straight ahead.

The encounter on a road in Hull last Monday went viral after being posted on YouTube by a man calling himself Steve Midz. The video quickly sparked a reaction online. ‘That just made my day,’ said one Mail Online reader. Another joked: ‘I know his brother Reggie Pickering, the most feared gangsters in Hull.’

Mr Pickering, 54, lives in a two-bedroom council bungalow in Hull. A sign on his gate reads: ‘Wanted good woman. Must have a boat and motor. Please send picture of boat and motor.’ He refused to come to the door yesterday, but locals identified him from the video.

One neighbour said Mr Pickering was ‘a nice guy’, but added: ‘You should not harass him. Ronnie Pickering is Ronnie Pickering. Who is he? He would like people to think they know him. He is not a violent man but he can stand up for himself.’ Humberside Police said they had received no complaint and were not investigating the incident.
