Jim Carrey’s girlfriend kills herself just days after they split
JIM Carrey’s Irish girlfriend has been found dead days after breaking up with the Hollywood star.
Cathriona White, 30, had reportedly taken a drugs overdose.
The make-up artist is believed to have left a note addressed to Carrey, making reference to their split.
The 53-year-old star of films including Ace Ventura, Liar Liar and The Truman Show said last night he was ‘shocked and deeply saddened’.
Miss White had an on-off relationship with the twice-divorced actor, but they are said to have split up for good on Thursday.
That day, she wrote a haunting final message on Twitter, which read: ‘Signing off Twitter, I hope I have been a light to my nearest and dearest. [Peace and love] to yo all [sic].’
On Instagram the previous day, she quoted poet W B Yeats, including the phrase ‘come take me out of this dull world’.
Miss White’s body is believed to have been found by two friends who called at her home. She is reported to have been renting the three-bedroom $1.1million (£725,500) house for around four months.
Los Angeles police received a call shortly after 7.20pm and Miss White was declared dead at 8.40pm.
The cause of death is unknown pending a post-mortem examination, but reports suggest she was found next to pill bottles.
Carrey said: ‘She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled. My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt.’
Miss White, her sister Lisa and brother James were raised by their father Pat, a digger operator, after their parents separated. Last night it emerged her mother Bridget Hickey said in an email to a family friend: ‘My Cathriona is dead. Can you believe it? … What am I going to do?’
In Miss White’s hometown of Cappawhite, County Tipperary, councillor Mary Hanna said: ‘Cathriona was a stunning looking girl, very quiet, very reserved, and very gentle … It’s hard to believe that poor child is gone.’
Frank Nakama, 81, a gardener on Miss White’s street for 40 years, told Mail Online yesterday that he last spoke to her on Friday, adding: ‘She was quiet but was polite as usual.’
Brie Childers, a photographer who worked with Miss White, told People magazine: ‘Cat was a very nice, sweet, cheerful person … She left a trail behind of smiles, and I hope she will find some peace now.’
Miss White moved to LA in 2009 and started dating Carey in 2012. In September that year she was pictured with him on a Malibu beach.
They split in March 2013 but rekindled the relationship in May this year and were spotted hand in hand. Friends told of their shock at the pairing.
