British girl, 18, found dead in Ibiza hotel room

- By Emily Kent Smith

A BRITISH teenager has been found dead in her hotel room on the Spanish island of Ibiza.

The 18- year- old girl, named locally as Rebeca Maria Brock, was found in her room at the Marco Polo Hotel, San Antonio, by cleaners.

It is understood that Miss Brock, from Nottingham, died of natural causes but some local newspapers reported that tests would be carried out for traces of drugs.

There were no signs of violence on her body, which was found on Monday morning, according to local reports.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place today but, at this stage, there is no suggestion that her death was drug-related.

last night, Spanish Civil Guard investigators were not available for comment.

The hotel where she had been staying also declined to comment.

Miss Brock is understood to have recently worked at clothing store Oasis. She also wrote a fashion blog. In her final post, written in June, she concluded the entry with: ‘ Here’s to the next year of my life.’ On her website, she described herself as: ‘Uncondition- ally obsessed with fashion, vintage, designer, high street ... I’m hooked.’

Miss Brock, of joint British and Dutch nationality, is believed to have recently started university in Holland. In a Twitter post earlier this month she wrote: ‘How have I almost done a month of uni and everyone’s en route to freshers now I feel cheated.’

Miss Brock’s death is the latest in a string of British fatalities in Ibiza this summer. last week, Danielle McCallum, an 18-year-old from Greenock, Scotland, died after reportedly taking ecstasy.

Civil Guard sources said a friend of Miss McCallum’s had revealed she had taken the Class A drug before dying from heart failure.

Tests are still being carried out to determine whether her death was drug-related. A spokesman at the Can Misses hospital in Ibiza said that Miss McCallum died after taking illegal substances but her family said she had been in bed all weekend following a fall.

The family confirmed she had taken painkillers but said that drugs allegations were ‘rubbish’.
