Ex-golfer ‘ beaten to death outside nightclub by wife’s jealous toyboy, 24’

A FORMER golf professional was beaten to death outside a nightclub by his wife’s young lover, a court heard yesterday.

Andrew Jackson, 43, was wrestled to the ground by Cohnor Coleman, 24, and pummelled in the head.

Coleman allegedly yelled ‘You’re not such a big man now’ after the attack that one witness likened to cage fighting.

He is said to have been jealous of Mr Jackson’s marriage to Sarah, a 38-year-old serial love cheat. All three had been out separately before ending up in the same bar in richmond, north Yorkshire.

Mr Jackson ignored his wife when she started accepting the advances of a third man but Coleman flew off the handle.

Paul Mitchell, prosecuting, said: ‘Some time after 11pm she can be seen on the close circuit TV footage speaking to another man at the bar.

‘The two of them then go hand in hand out of the bar area and into a small room outside the toilets where they can be seen standing face to face and very close to each other.

‘The video footage suggests both Sarah Jackson’s husband Andrew and her lover Cohnor Coleman were aware of what she was doing in the club. The premises are in fact so small that it would be hard for them not to notice.’

Coleman challenged the new lover in a clash that saw him kicked out of the club. Mrs Jackson followed him outside and her husband was close behind – unaware that she and Coleman were lovers.

Mr Mitchell told Teesside Crown Court: ‘In the street a short distance from that public house Coleman launched a vicious and prolonged attack on Mr Jackson.

‘He knocked him to the floor and when he was on the floor he repeatedly struck him with his fists.

‘Mr Jackson was left unconscious and his breathing stopped. He had suffered a catastrophic injury to his brain as a result of Coleman’s blows. He died two days later without regaining consciousness.’

The prosecutor said the attack, which Mrs Jackson tried to halt, was both unwarranted and gratuitous, adding: ‘Coleman was angry and aggressive and frustrated by problems in his relationship with Sarah Jackson.

‘He took out those frustrations on a man whom he saw as one of the obstacles to that relationship.’ The court was told that Mr Jackson, who was a lorry driver, had had a troubled five-year marriage.

Mr Mitchell said: ‘The majority of those problems appear to have been caused by a series of extra-marital affairs Sarah had conducted.’

Mrs Jackson, who worked in a VW dealership, met Coleman at a gym in April. She had two children from a relationship before her marriage.

Coleman, of Brough with St Giles, near Catterick, denies murdering Mr Jackson outside the Cavern bar on April 25. He admits manslaughter and the trial continues.
