What our leaders really talk about
A WORD in your ear, Prime Minister – she’s a former prostitute.
That was the startling insight Jeremy Corbyn apparently chose to convey to David Cameron while they waited for Chinese President Xi Jingping.
Mr Cameron’s eyebrows rose dramatically as the Labour leader gossiped: ‘It was difficult because, erm, that’s his ex-wife who is, erm, apparently an ex-prostitute.’
The unlikely exchange was caught on camera, without audio, but lip-reading experts analysed the video of the conversation.
Last night, the big question was who Mr Corbyn had been calling a sex worker.
There was also surprise that Mr Corbyn, known for his earnest style at Prime Minister’s Questions, would pass up the chance to quiz Mr Cameron on more pressing topics such as tax credits or the British steel crisis.
Amid fevered speculation about exactly who the two leaders were discussing, Mr Corbyn denied using the word ‘prostitute’.
His spokesman said: ‘He didn’t say it’, but refused to offer an alternative version. However lip-reading experts begged to differ.
In an exchange the Prime Minister clearly found awkward, the Labour leader told him about their mutual acquaintance’s ex-wife ‘who is, erm, apparently an ex-prostitute’, adding mysteriously: ‘It’s just that age.’
An embarrassed-looking Mr Cameron nodded and replied: ‘Ohhhh’, with his eyebrows raised. He then swiftly steered the conversation on to self-employment levels.
The conversation has been analysed by lipreading experts, including Tina Lannin for MailOnline. She was adamant the word prostitute was used, adding: ‘I’ve just explained this situation to another lip-reader, and asked her to take a look. She says “prostitute” is definitely the right word.’
