Kate the lacy lady looks a peach in plum at £1,850
SHE is known for her love of high street fashion, but the Duchess of Cambridge opted for something considerably more high-end yesterday – a lacy creation by Dolce & Gabbana.
The £1,850 high-necked dress in an autumnal shade of aubergine was an austere choice for Kate, although the sheer sleeves revealed a hint of skin through the guipure lace. Accessories were kept simple, with a pair of £361 Gianvito Rossi suede pumps completing the outfit.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were at Lancaster House in London to welcome China’s President Xi Jinping and his wife Madame Peng to a UK Trade and Investment exhibition showcasing creative collaborations between Britain and China.
The Royal couple and their guests met Hong Kong movie star Jackie Chan. They also got a sneak preview of the Aston Martin DB10 that serves as James Bond’s car in the new movie, Spectre, which has its royal premiere in London on Monday with the Cambridges in attendance.
The group also got an insight into the next series of drama Poldark during the tour, watching intently as Heida Reed, who plays Elizabeth, and Jack Farthing, who portrays Poldark’s nemesis George, acted out a scene.
William asked: ‘How’s it been down there in Cornwall – windy?’, to which the two actors replied together: ‘Really windy.’ William said: ‘All the sound microphones were probably blown away’.
It was announced yesterday that the BBC drama has been sold to China. The series will make its Chinese debut in December, leading a new charge by UK television companies selling their programmes to the nation.
