ON THIS DAY
IT’S DAY 335 OF 2015
IN 1986 the Dutch Ambassador to the UK, Rein Huydecoper, travelled to the Isles of Scilly to formally sign an official peace treaty between the Islands and the Kingdom of the Netherlands. They had technically been at war with each other for 335 years — but no one realised until a local historian called Roy Duncan discovered the oversight. A RASH of tornadoes in the south-eastern U.S. claimed 335 lives on April 27, 2011 — the deadliest single day in U.S. tornado history.
