Burt, 79, the stuntman who needs a stick

- Daily Mail Reporter

FRAIL and walking with a stick, he needed the support of two minders as he made his way into the TV studio.

Once inside, however, Burt Reynolds was transformed.

The veteran actor, 79, jokingly threw himself off the sofa and writhed on the floor during an appearance on ITV’s Jonathan Ross show, to be shown this evening.

The star of films including Smokey And The Bandit had been being interviewed alongside fellow actor Simon Pegg.

Pegg, 45, was speaking about how Tom Cruise did his own stunts when they filmed Mission Impossible together, including clinging to the side of a plane that was taking off.

At this point, intent on proving that he was still as agile as 53-year- old Cruise, Reynolds rolled off the sofa in his own joke stunt.

He lay on the floor for a few seconds before getting up, without assistance, to return to the sofa.

Reynolds then told Ross he thought Cruise should stop performing his own stunts.

He said: ‘There comes a time when you have to stop doing that and I think Tom, dear God I hope so, will figure it out and will say, “I need to stop doing that.” He has nothing to prove any more.’

Earlier Pegg had said: ‘ It just means a lot to him [Cruise] that when the audience watch the movie, they’re watching it thinking, “Oh Jesus, it’s him, he’s doing it”.’
