Townsend and Fazio heading for Spurs exit

- by SAMI MOKBEL @SamiMokbel81_DM

Tottenham plan to offload central defender Federico Fazio when the transfer window opens next month and england winger andros townsend could also leave the club.

Fazio arrived at White hart Lane from Sevilla at the start of last season but has fallen way down the pecking order under manager Mauricio Pochettino.

the 28-year-old has made just one appearance all season, starting in the 2-1 Capital one Cup defeat at home to arsenal, and the argentine has been told he can go. West Brom were interested in Fazio in the summer, and tony Pulis could revive a move for the towering centre back.

townsend is another who could be on his way out of tottenham next month having being frozen out by Pochettino, though the club will be looking for around £15million. aston Villa and Southampton enquired about the winger before the start of the season but totten- ham insisted he was not for sale, leading townsend to believe he was a part of Pochettino’s plans.

But the forward has been restricted to a bit-part role this season and is yet to start a Premier League game. Indeed, youngster Joshua onomah has even been preferred off the bench in recent weeks.

townsend’s tottenham contract expires in 2017 and he is eager to play regular football. he was reprimanded by the club last month after clashing with fitness coach nathan Gardiner in a warm-down after the victory against aston Villa and snubbed for two games.

the 24- year- old, a boyhood tottenham fan, is open to leaving next month having not played a single minute for the club since a 2-1 europa League defeat by anderlecht on october 22.

and, having blocked a move away in the summer, tottenham are poised to change their stance in January.

meanwhile, tottenham remain interested in West Brom striker Saido Berahino, but fear the rocky relationship between club supremos Daniel Levy and Jeremy Peace will scupper a move.

the duo fell out spectacularly during the closing days of the summer transfer window as the 22- year- old tried to force through a move.

Despite Berahino being out of favour at the hawthorns — he has been on the bench for their last three matches — there is concern the fractured relationship between Levy and Peace will make it difficult for Spurs to finalise a deal.

another potential recruit is marseille striker michy Batshuayi, who tottenham scouts watched score his 11th goal of the season on Sunday.

earlier this week marseille president Vincent Labrune told French newspaper Liberation that the 23-year-old Belgium international is likely to leave in the summer, with former club Standard Liege receiving 35 per cent of the fee.

marseille are reportedly holding out for a figure in the region of £30m for the attacker.
