BY GEORGE! CHARLOTTE’S JUST LIKE HER MUMMY

- By Rebecca English Royal Correspondent

An adorably informal happy family portrait, it is the perfect choice to adorn the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s Christmas card.

And it is sure to delight all those lucky enough to receive one.

But for many older relatives it will also be a trip down memory lane. For while two-and-a-halfyear-old George looks just like his father at that age, Charlotte is the spitting image of her mother as a baby.

The informal family portrait was taken by photographer Chris Jelf – described as a ‘friend of a friend’ – in the couple’s private garden at Kensington Palace in October.

As usual, mischievous Prince George steals the

show. While Kate is smiling at the camera, William’s eyes are firmly locked on his son, who is giggling and looks like he may be about to bolt as he rests on his kneeling mother’s arm.

George is dressed traditionally in patterned blue jumper over a white shirt, blue shorts and knee-length socks with buckled shoes. Princess Charlotte is wearing the same outfit she was pictured in by her mother last month.

Her pretty patterned dress costs £21 and is by Spanish brand m&h, bought, it is believed, by her nanny Maria Borrallo in Valladolid. Her pink cashmere cardigan is by The Little White Company and is currently on sale for £27.50, reduced from £55. Her matching pink tights costs £11 from Amaia Kids.

However, the pose is possibly a little more informal than intended. For just as William and Kate thought they had their children smiling and everything under control, Charlotte chose to kick off one of her pink shoes before the shutter clicked. It can be seen on the grass next to another sign that the children needed a little persuasion to keep them happy and still – George’s red toy train.

It is the first time that Mr Jelf has photo- graphed the family and originally it had been intended as a private shoot for themselves, family and friends. But William and Kate loved the results so much that they decided to use one pose for their annual greeting card, making it their first official photograph as a family since Charlotte’s christening. The image was released by their private office yesterday. William and Kate are about to leave London for their Norfolk home, Anmer Hall. They will join the Queen and other senior royals at nearby Sandringham House on Christmas Eve and at church on Christmas Day, but plan to have lunch at their home with Kate’s family.
