Dele’s new Spurs deal
DeLe Alli has seen his salary increase by a staggering 600 per cent in under a year after signing a new Tottenham contract. The midfielder has signed a new five-and-a-half-year deal that will see his £12,000 per week rocket to £25,000. alli was earning just £3,500 when he signed from MK dons on February 2 last year.
alli’s deal is part of a contract renewal drive from Tottenham, which also includes vice- captain harry Kane and Mousa dembele.
alli’s performances have not gone unnoticed by europe’s top clubs, with scouts from Paris SaintGermain watching the teenager in recent weeks. The midfielder is fully committed to Spurs but keen to play abroad in the future.
Meanwhile, Kane is to double his salary at White hart Lane, despite the fact that he signed his current contract less than a year ago.
The england striker’s existing £35,000-per-week deal expires in 2020 but Tottenham, knowing Manchester united and Chelsea are eyeing the striker, want to ensure he is not tempted by a move away. Included will be a promise of incremental wage increases if Kane continues his blistering form.
Likewise, Tottenham are increasingly confident that dembele will pen a new contract. he has just 18 months left on his deal and Spurs want to secure dembele before he enters the final year.
ahead of tonight’s game with Leicester, Mauricio Pochettino said roy hodgson should consider pairing Kane and Jamie Vardy up front during euro 2016. england’s two most prolific strikers have 26 Premier League goals between them this season and the opportunity to show hodgson who should lead the attack in France.
both have gone far beyond Wayne rooney’s disappointing three-goal contribution at Manchester united and Pochettino is convinced they would gel as a pairing.
‘I think that both show unbelievable skills and maybe roy can decide to put them both together. Why not?’, said the Spurs boss. ‘I think they have the skill to do it. They can play together like rooney with Vardy or rooney with Kane. I think when you have greater skill, and good players, the good players can play together.’
Vardy is doubtful for tonight’s game after a minor groin procedure. It follows the clubs’ 2-2 draw inthe Fa Cup on Sunday and sees Pochettino reunited with Claudio ranieri, who, he revealed, tried to sign him for atletico Madrid in 1999.
having agreed all the paperwork, the move stalled because of atletico’s financial problems and they were ultimately relegated. Pochettino stayed at espanyol and won the Copa del rey that season.
Pochettino said: ‘I saw him on Sunday on the touchline and he said, “You are lucky”.
‘I had agreed to go but they couldn’t pay because the government took over the club. espanyol won the cup so I was saying, “Thank you, thank you” to Claudio.’
Leicester are preparing a new contract for left back ben Chilwell, who is on £800 per week and attracting interest from arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.
