‘Terrorist house’ pupil, 10, quizzed
A BOY of ten was quizzed by police after mistakenly writing in an English lesson that he lived in a ‘terrorist house’ rather than a ‘terrace house’.
An officer visited the Muslim pupil’s Lancashire home next day and also checked a family laptop. His family want teachers and police to say sorry.
His cousin, who is not being named to protect the boy’s identity, told the BBC: ‘You can imagine it happening to a 30-year- old man, but not to a young child. If the teacher had any concerns it should have been about his spelling.
‘They shouldn’t be putting a child through this. He’s now scared of writing, using his imagination.’ She said she initially thought it was a joke.
Lancashire Police said ‘no further action was required’ after the visit by an officer and a social worker. Teachers must report suspected extremists as part of the Government’s Prevent anti-radicalisation strategy.
