A taxpayer’s lament
HAMAD SAID left South Sudan on May 15, 2015, and travelled through various countries before arriving in Britain on July 17, 2015, under a lorry from Calais. Mr Said has been given permission to stay in Britain for five years, a hostel room and £115 a fortnight to live on (Mail).
As a taxpayer in this country I felt very angry and wrote to Home Secretary Theresa May asking why Mr Said had been allowed to stay here for the next five years, as he’s obviously an illegal immigrant.
South Sudan, it seems, is a dangerous place, but Mr Said was happy enough to leave his wife and small child there.
I received a reply from the Treat Official Team (whatever that means) stating that it has to comply with the Data Protection Act and is limited in the information it can provide. Written confirmation has to be provided by Mr Said himself before information is given.
If I, as a taxpayer, cannot ask why my contributions are being spent in this way, it’s a sad reflection of the direction in which this country is going.
