SO, WHO IS THE NEW REDS HERO?

- BOB TREASURE

SHEYI OJO is an 18-year-old winger, born in Hemel Hempstead, who signed for Liverpool from MK Dons’ academy in 2011.

WHAT TYPE OF PLAYER IS HE?

HE is a pacy and powerful wide man, who can play on either flank, and has been compared to Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling. Ojo also has an eye for goal — last night’s strike was his fourth of the season. The other three came during a loan spell at Wolves.

BUT IS HE ANY GOOD?

OJO was hardly a household name when he made his Liverpool debut against Exeter earlier this month, but the England Under-19 international impressed before truly making his mark last night. As a 14-year-old, MK Dons fielded a £2m offer for Ojo from Chelsea after a two-minute cameo for England Under 16s against Northern Ireland, while Manchester United, Ajax, Barcelona and Real Madrid also showed interest. Ojo opted to join Liverpool but is a boyhood Arsenal fan, and even admitted he would have joined the Gunners ‘in an ideal world’!
